When it comes to power bridge rectifiers, design engineers have to go back to through-hole devices which first need to be soldered onto the PCB, and then screwed to an extra heat-sink. These are manual assembly steps, which cost time and effort and also bear the risk of potential failures.

Other power semiconductors such as MOSFETs or IGBTs and diodes for the PFC, converter and inverter stage or brake chopper, are widely available in SMD outlines like the well known D²PAK. They can be assembled fully automatic by pick&place machines and afterwards solder process, at high speed and with constant quality.

The S16MSD2 half bridge closes the gap which was up to now at the input rectifier stage. Two of these parts form a full bridge, which can be assembled in the same process step than the other power semiconductors. Like for those, cooling is done via the PCB metallization. So the entire power stage can be done in one time and with the same concept.

DI6206 Series from Diotec is a high precision CMOS based low drop out voltage regulator. The device is compatible with low ESR ceramic capacitors. It provides output currents over 200 mA and fixed output voltages of 1.5 V to 3.6 V from an input voltage of 7.0 V. Special features like very low quiescent current and low dropout voltage enables usage in low power applications, and allows for longer operation times of battery-powered electronics. The GBU10A...GBU10M series of single phase bridge rectifiers are offered in the GBU package with 5.08mm pitch. The devices can be operated free-standing for up to 7.0A of output current as well as clipped onto a heatsink for up to 10A. They are ideally suited for printed circuit board assemblies. With a case length of 21.5mm and a thickness of 3.4mm it can be used even in tight assemblies where space is restricted.

SMS560-3G is a 5A/60V Schottky offering a forward voltage drop which was only possible with 40V types up to now. It has less than 0.55V at 5A, and anyway, unlike other "low Vf" Schottky types a low reverse current of maximum 80µA at 60V.

This outstanding performance is realized by Diotec's 3rd generation chip technology. Compared to former generations, this is a reduction of almost 20% in forward drop and thus power losses. Junction temperature is further reduced by the thermally low resistive MELF package, where these parts are build in.

The SMS560-3G is ideal for polarity protection but also high power output rectification. The 40V type SMS540-3G with even lower Vf completes the product family.

With the ER2DSMA, a 2A/200V Superfast Efficient Rectifier in SMA package designers can easily solve two of their typical challenges: Reducing board space on one side, and increasing power output on the other.

This high power density device features a forward voltage of less than 1V and a reverse recovery time below 35ns. This makes it ideally suited for switching frequencies in the 100kHz range. The device has similar performance compared to alternatives offered by other manufacturers in the bigger SMB package.

It is available both in commercial and Automotive grade (suffix -AQ), and is well suited for applications like high frequency inverters, DC/DC converters, freewheeling diodes and LED drivers.

Application Note ESD Protection Solutions

Our new Application Note ESD Protection Solutions introduces several so-called "lead-less" package outlines. Rather than having extended leads, these parts are connected on the bottom side and thus save valuable board space. Just one example out of several is the DI5315-02F in the very small SOT-883 or DFN1006-3 package.

It measures only 1.0mm by 0.6mm and offers two ESD protection diodes with common ground connection. They can protect high speed data lines and I/O ports, such as USB and HDMI interfaces, used at communication and entertainment devices.
