When driving an EV, you will be impressed by its surpassing acceleration. More controversial discussed are the environmental aspects. Clear is that there is no pollution at the place where you drive. But if electricity for re-charging the battery is generated in the traditional way, the problem is just shifted to another place. New concepts deal with the usage of EVs for energy storage of fluctuating solar and wind power. Wall boxes or, even better, wireless charging systems at home and in companies could ideally serve such concepts.

1.0SMBJ series TVS diodes: High in performance. Compact in Size.
Today’s modern high power density electronics are more vulnerable to electrical stresses than ever due to the component miniaturization. High demand scalable electronics such as Smart Meter require high reliable circuit protection. These devices are connected directly to the land line, where lightning strikes are a permanent source for excessive voltage surges.
The 1.0SMBJ series from Diotec is a high power density and compact Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS), optimized to protect vulnerable electronics from high voltage transients. It offers a high peak pulse power dissipation of 1000 W at 10/1000 µs waveforms in a compact DO-214AA/SMB package. Standoff voltage ranges from 5.0 V to 120 V, breakdown from 6.4 V to 133 V.

SRL23 Schottky diodes: High Power dissipation. Ultra-low profile package.
The SRL23 is a high current Schottky diode in the tiny PowerSOD-323/DO-219AD package and measures 2.5 mm x 1.25 mm. It thus requires just 3.1 mm² on the printed circuit board.
This device is optimized for high frequency and high power density applications. It features a repetitive reverse voltage of 30 V and nominal forward current rating of 2 A. Having smaller dimensions, low height profile and large cathode-sided leads these part enable the design engineers to increase power density and save space in compact electronics. The low forward voltage characteristics allow for energy efficient solutions for applications like battery chargers, power supplies, set-top boxes, smart meters, any kind of smart home devices and much more.

Amp / 600 Volt Rectifier Needs Just 3.1 mm²
The SRL1 series of Standard Recovery rectifier diodes comes in the tiny PowerSOD-323/DO-219AD and measures 2.5 mm x 1.25 mm. It thus requires just 3.1 mm² on the printed circuit board. Due to its large cathode-sided heat dissipation area, it offers anyway a nominal forward current of nominal 1 A and is available with up to 600 V peak reverse voltage. It is therefore the ideal solution for polarity protection and low frequency rectification on all PCBs where space is restricted. The family starts with the SRL1B offering 100 V and ends with the SRL1J having 600 V. Automotive compliant versions can be ordered by adding the suffix -Q to the part number.

Solar energy is one of the cleanest forms of renewable energy. Photovoltaic plants are one of the fastest growing sources for our future electricity generation.
In PV modules, cell strings are connected in series to increase the voltage output. During operation, they require the protection from a "hot-spot" phenomena in case of partial shading. Bypass diodes come into play to overcome such problems. These diodes are connected in parallel to the strings and bypass the current from the shaded cells.
IGBTs used in solar inverters require free-wheeling diodes with low forward voltage drop and very fast reverse recovery, in order to keep power losses at a low level. Superfast Efficient rectifiers are a cost effective solution for all such inverters.

ESD protection is no more a matter of size
The ESD9BL0522P by Diotec comes in the tiny, "leadless" SOD-882/DFN1006 package. It measures only 1.0 mm by 0.6 mm at no extended leads, but terminals fully integrated on the bottom package side. Parts offer anyway a comfortable ESD surge capability of 20 kV (air discharge) respectively 15 kV (contact discharge) according to IEC 61000-4-2.
Due to their very low junction capacity of 0.4 pF only, they are well suited for high frequency data lines and interfaces. The stand-off voltage of 5V covers a wide range of signal levels, and clamping voltage of 12 V at 1 A and 8/20 µs surges helps to protect sensitive electronic circuits.
