SBT1045-3G - An Excellent Choice for Output Rectification in LED Drivers

Flyer 3G Schottky Consumer

We are pleased to introduce the SBT1045-3G, the upcoming member of our 3rd generation Schottky family. It comes in a TO-220AC power package and features a repetitive peak reverse voltage of 45V with 10A of average forward current rating. It offers lower power losses both in forward and reverse and is dedicated for a high level of efficiency.

Typical applications include output rectification in DC/DC converters and power supplies, polarity protection and free-wheeling diodes. The SBT1045-3G is an excellent option for output rectification in LED drivers.

Here the main parameters of this part under typical application conditions of an output rectifier:

Vf typ 390mV at If = 10A and Tj = 125°C
Ir typ 10mA at Vr = 5V and Tj = 125°C

First samples are available from September; they can be ordered already now at our orderconfirmation.

Flyer 3G Schottky Consumer

Diotec's -3G Schottky Technology encompasses high power handling capability at small package outlines. It offers state-of-the-art performance in the field of Schottky Rectifiers. Reduced forward voltage Vf and low reverse leakage current Ir are two common features of all these new devices.

Lighting is an essential element in our present world. It plays a decisive role in our daily lives, right from low power indoor lighting at home, to mid and high power outdoor lighting, industrial and horticulture lighting systems. Lighting accounts for about 15% of global electricity consumption.

A new era came with the light emitting diodes (LED). They consume little electricity, are long lasting, versatile and contain no toxic substances. LEDs are the future for lighting. Other intelligent technologies such as digital lighting control systems and smart lighting solutions are emerging in the market, further ensuring an increase in efficiency, greater energy savings and thus lower the carbon emissions.

By choosing the best suited semiconductor components in the design, power losses decrease and energy savings can be pushed even further. Hence, the selection of the right components can also boost-up the overall performance.
We at Diotec Semiconductor focus on supplying high quality products like the 3rd generation Schottky diodes. Their features like low to very low Vf and lower leakage currents make them well suited for a variety of lighting applications like LED lamp drivers, lighting controls, polarity protection of automotive lighting systems and many more.

Our actual -3G Schottky portfolio includes rectifier diodes with (very) low forward voltage drop, reverse voltages from 20V to 45V and forward current ratings from 0.5A to 30A. A new flyer shows dedicated Schottky diodes for lighting applications. If you prefer reading a hardcopy, you can order it here.

Main Features of -3G Schottky Technology:

- Very Low Forward Voltage
- Low Reverse Current
- High Power Capability

Our Parts are Compliant with new REACH Candidate List

ESD protection

Like every half-year, ECHA has published on 16 July 2019 the new candidate list, containing now in total 201 substances of very high concern (SVHC). None of the new SVHC are contained in our prodcuts. Those substances which are declarable, such as the lead used in the high melting type solder alloy and fully exempted by RoHS, can be found in the material data sheets (MDS) on our website.

SK34SMA L217: Perfect output rectifier for wireless charging of battery powered devices

3G Schottky Rectifier for wireless charging

Diotec proudly launches one such device: a 3rd generation Schottky device, which offers not only lower (very) forward voltage drop and therefore lower forward losses but also lower leakage currents, which allows higher standby durations.

The new SK34SMA L217 15MQ040N is a SMD Schottky diode where Vf and Ir were perfectly matched towards the customer's needs. Its a bit of a bulky part number but this can be explained as follows.

The challenge in this case was to build an output rectifier for wireless charging of a battery powered device. During stand-by mode, the reverse leakage Ir must be very low in order to avoid too fast discharging of the battery. In charging mode, the forward voltage Vf must be reduced to provide high efficieny and fast charging times.

Here the typical parameters requested for the output rectifier of the wireless charging system:

Vf typ 0.35 V @ 2 A / 125°C
Ir typ 8 µA @ 4 V / 50°C

Based on our flagship in SMA, the 3A/40V SK34SMA-3G, we built the special version L217. Our customer, a leading manufacturer of battery powered consumer devices, confirmed that this customized device outperforms impressively the parameters of the industry standard 15MQ040N.

Over the past decades, there has been a large increase in the usage of consumer electronics in households, which consumes an enormous amount of energy. These electrical appliances consume energy, not only when they are active, but also when they are left on standby mode.

The industry prioritizes in developing energy saving products, not only to help the environment but also to reduce their financial costs. It is a fact that the semiconductor technology and the components are the decisive factor in producing energy efficient products.

For many years, we at Diotec have been developing new technological solutions. We have been delivering many energy efficient components intended for energy savings and high reliability systems.

ESD Protection: NUP2105L and ESD3BxxWS withstand up to 30kV

ESD protection

Our new NUP2105L follows the industry standard in SOT-23 package and offers two bidirectional diodes with 24V stand-off voltage. They withstand up to 30kV according to JESD-A114D (HBM) and feature a very low junction capacitance of only 30pF. It makes them thus ideally suited for I/O port and CAN bus protection.

The ESD3BxxWS is an entire series of bidirectional ESD protection diodes in the small SOD-323 package. Their stand-off voltage ranges from 5.0V to 24V at 350W of peak pulse power. ESD immunity is 30kV according to IEC 61000-4-2 (air discharge). Applications are any kind of interface and data line protection.

New Series about 3rd Generation Schottky Rectifier: Part 3/5 - Products for Energy Applications

Diotec's -3G Schottky Technology encompasses high power handling capability at small package outlines. It offers state-of-the-art performance in the field of Schottky Rectifier. Energy savings are one common feature of all these new devices.

The new axial lead diode SBX3040-3G shows impressively what that means. It features a very low forward voltage and a low leakage current, and is thus perfectly suited for solar bypass diode applications but also reverse polarity protection.

Here some typical, application oriented parameters proofing its superior performance:

Vf < 0.39 V @ 15 A / 75°C
Ir < 220 µA @ 12 V / 75°C

Important for Solar Bypass diodes is the so-called thermal runaway test. The -3G Schottky technology offers low leakage currents which adresses exactly that issue. The SBX3040-3G can be used in solar junction boxes for up to 15A with no thermal runaway. Its very low forward voltage drop Vf makes this part further ideally suited for reverse polarity protection in battery powered systems or automotive applications. Power losses can be reduced and thus energy saved.

Our actual -3G Schottky portfolio includes Rectifier Diodes with (Very) Low Forward Voltage Drop, reverse voltages from 20V to 45V and forward current ratings from 0.5A to 30A. A new flyer shows dedicated Schottky Diodes for Mobility Applications.

- Very Low Forward Voltage
- Low Reverse Current
- High Power Dissipation
- High ESD Robustness
- Energy Savings

The California Proposition 65 is "The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 by the State of California (USA)". Its goals are to protect drinking water sources from toxic substances that cause cancer and birth defects and to reduce or eliminate exposures to those chemicals in general by requiring warnings in advance of those exposures, for example in consumer products.

Diotec's products are not intended to be sold to end-users, as such we are not subject to California Proposition 65. However, as a Germany based company subject to the most strict European environmental legislations, we take our responsibility in the supply chain very serious. We inform therefore our customers with our Declaration about potential exposures by our components during or after use in their devices sold to their end-users. You can download the whole Declaration here.
