Demoboard: Protected Automotive USB Outlet - Safe Charging of your Smartphone in Caravans and More

caravans and load dump

Summer, sun and fun. A holiday trip to the south by caravan is a welcome change and a great opportunity to enjoy the sun. The evenings are ideally suited for a cosy get-together, playing cards, great talks and barbecues at sunset … forgot to charge your smartphone?!

Don't worry, modern caravans offer many amenities, including USB outlets to charge your phone and camera, and run many kinds of electronic devices. Staying in contact with your loved ones at home and surfing the internet is possible all the time. An extra battery supplies all electric demand in the caravan during the stay, and releases the car engine's battery. But like that one, this extra battery bears the risk of load dump peaks, damaging the electronics and in worst case the device connected to the USB outlet.

Here our latest demoboard 3991 comes into play. It is equipped with the TVS diode LDP02-28AYD2-AQ, offering defined load dump protection, a peak pulse power of 6 600 W and an ESD immunity of +/- 30 kV per air and contact discharge (HBM). It comes in the industry standard TO-263AB/D²PAK outline, which allows an optimized cost/performance ratio. The demoboard further contains a fully workable USB charger circuit; therefore, it can be used to test all kinds of surge pulses and their effect on the circuit, but also for any kind of USB load. It is available from the end of Q3/2022.
